About

Nicolas Sanchez (Santiago de Chile, 1981) lives and works in Santiago, Chile.

A daily exercise. To make images is to make silent pirouettes in order to name something that we can vaguely point at. There is the idea of the sublime, of something that can be awe-inspiring and frightening, that awakens a beautiful vertigo, a metaphysical shudder. It is turning the gaze inwards, towards something universal that is inside everyone but in different ways, a fragment of the spirit of the world. Not documentary images of efficient communication but portraits of the invisible that shoot in all directions, an architecture of small spaces to inhabit, from which one can leave and enter again. This is a daily exercise of comprehension, of insistence on the human, that obeys an inner necessity of broadening the spaces of life. And for this you walk, you go around, you live in different places, you search for the unknown and for disorientation as a fundamental way of being in the world.
